chuck todd. thanks for joining us tonight. this was a hot pressure cooker press conference and you were in the middle. let's talk about the president's tactic. it looks like he's got one. here he is sticking out his message of defending the middle class today, sticking to it. he practically dared the republicans to hold tax cuts for the middle class hostage. he went back to that word hostage. let's take a look. >> the other option is to pass a law right now that would prevent any tax hike whatsoever on the first $250,000 of everybody's income. i hope republicans in the house come on board, too. we should not hold the middle class hostage while we debate tax cuts for the wealthy. the most important step we can take right now, i think the foundation for a deal that helps the economy, creates jobs, gives consumersty, which means gives consumers confidence they'll have consumers during the holiday season if we right away say 98% of americans aren't going to see their taxes go up. >> i thought that was pretty well crafted as a tactic. i don't know if it's a strategy. basically saying, r

i'm glad you're up with us this morning. a lot to cover on a thursday, november 15th. we're going to start with that breaking news right now from israel. this morning, israeli television is reporting that three israelis were killed in rocket strikes in the southern region of that country. this comes as the israeli military has launched an aggressive campaign to cripple hamas after repeated rocket attacks. as many as 750 this year launched from gaza into southern israel. last night president obama spoke on the phone with prime minister benjamin netanyahu acknowledging israel's right to defend itself following but also urging netanyahu to avoid civilian casualties. hours earlier the israeli government posted this video from youtube showing an air strike yesterday in gaza that killed ahmed al jabari, he is the top military member of hamas. that was a widespread campaign against hamas targets that the israeli military had said it will broaden in the coming days. this morning israeli defense forces, the idf, dropped leaflets over gaza warning residents there to stay away from hamas ope

. then we think we will get some readout for the senior member who is will be able to tell us the sense of what they were able to learn without divulging the classified part but give us a sense of where they are in the process. when i mention the frustration, various members of congress in both parties who have been sending in letters asking for specific information, i've been told repeatedly they're not getting the information they want. so these hearings are an important way to try to resolve some of that. even susan rice and what may be her political future if she were to be nominated from the secretary of state position. having that focus on her is also another way of shining a light on benghazi and trying to get more answers. so that's part of what we see is happening. it's complicated, but there seems to be movement in getting key people here to talk about what went on, what was known, and why some things happened that resulted in those deaths. thomas? >> real quickly. yesterday lindsay graham and mccain teaming up to announce the desire for a select committee. >> a select committ
